What You Should Know About Debt Consolidation Loans for People With Bad Credit

I am always in awe about the number of people with bad credit that are looking for a loan. Many organizations will tell you that they have debt consolidation loans for people with bad credit. But do these loans really exist? And if they do exist at what price do these loans come? In today’s economy, the way lenders loan money has changed significantly. And one thing a lender will require before they give you a loan is for you to be credit worthy.

This means you will need to have a job and a decent credit score. But even if you have all this, you are going to need collateral for a debt consolidation loan. This means you need to own a home and on the outside chance that you find a lender that will lend to you with bad credit and without a home, you most likely will not be getting a very big loan and it will probably also come with a high interest rate. For most people a debt consolidation loan with bad credit is just not going to be an option.

A debt consolidation loan secured with your home is not a wise decision for anyone. If you have credit card debt and you do not pay it, your lenders can harass you with calls and letters all day and they can even go as far as taking you to court, but they cannot take your home. However, if you consolidate your debt into mortgage and are not able to make the payments, you are leaving yourself wide open for the lender to begin foreclosure proceedings.

It has also been shown that many people that consolidate their credit card debt into a loan, often have credit card debt again within a year. Most people do not change their spending habits. If this happens, you will end up with a loan payment and more credit card debt. Using a loan to finance debt, even if it is a lower interest rate, is a very risky move and should be considered very carefully before the choice is made.

If you are looking for an option that will allow you to consolidate your credit card debt and does not require you to own a home or have good credit, nonprofit credit counseling is an option that will work for many people that need structured debt relief help. Through credit counseling, most unsecured debts can be consolidated and only one payment is necessary each month. Your interest rates are reduced significantly and your fees are eliminated. Completing a credit counseling program takes 3 to 5 years and will not ruin your credit.

If you have debt, using a loan to pay it off is not a good idea, especially now. Any number of things could happen where you may not be able to make your payments. Debt management companies are more willing to work with you than a lender. These programs are easy to enroll in and you could have everything in place in less than a week.
