Beginning the Journey Towards Debt Freedom

Are you looking for free credit card debt relief? If you are, you are not alone. But you must understand that this journey will not be easy and it will not happen quickly. If that is what you have decided that you want, your goal of debt freedom is attainable.

Step one, and for some people this will be the most difficult one, is to stop using your credit cards. If you don’t think you can do this, cut the cards up. In the end, you will be glad you did.

The second thing you will want to do is to pull your bills out of the drawer and open them, if you haven’t already. Now it’s time to make a list. This list should include the minimum payment, the balance, due date and number of payments it will take to pay off the balance that is owed. This will give you an idea where you stand.

The next step is to negotiate interest rate reductions with your lenders. As long as you have made timely payments most lenders will lower your interest rate once a year. This is where you are going to save money and in the long run owe less to you lenders.

You are going to have to make at least minimum payments to keep you accounts current. If you are not financially able to do this you may want to consider credit counseling or debt settlement. Select the credit account with the lowest balance. Pay the minimum payment on your other accounts. On the account with the lowest balance, you will pay as much as you can afford.

When the first account is paid off, you will select the account with the lowest balance of your remaining unpaid account and follow the same process you used with your last consumer account. This method will be followed until you have all your credit cards paid off.

This all sounds so simple and it is. The challenge is cutting your expenses and increasing your income. These are going to be the two things that will allow you to pay off your debt more quickly. The more you can cut out of your budget and add to your income, the sooner you will be debt free. If you are able to take small steps, they will add up to a major stride.
